Old-style plates cost more
Old-style plates are from an earlier series with two Thai letters, for example กก, กท or ขข. No new plates are issued in these old series, so there are fewer of them. Examples from our stock in October 2026:
- 9999 on an old-style plate: about ฿1,350,000 to ฿1,990,000
- 8888 on an old-style plate: about ฿1,500,000 to ฿2,600,000
- 7777 on an old-style plate: about ฿795,000
- 168 on an old-style plate: up to about ฿6,500,000
Five things that set the price
- The number. Single digits, three of a kind and four of a kind cost the most. Pairs, sequences and mirror numbers come next.
- How many digits. Numbers with 1 to 3 digits are rarer than 4-digit numbers.
- Plate type. A graphic auction plate is a right to the number that you can keep without a car, so it often costs more than a classic white plate with a similar number. See DLT auction plates.
- The letters. Old-style letters, double letters and letters with a good meaning sell for more.
- The sum. Many Thai buyers add up the letters and digits on the plate. Plates with a lucky sum sell faster and for more. See lucky number meanings.
Prices by budget
- Under ฿100,000: classic white plates with pairs or nice 3 to 4 digit numbers.
- ฿100,000 to ฿1,000,000: graphic auction plates with sequences, mirror numbers and round numbers such as 100, 1000, 1234 and 1919, and many 2-digit numbers.
- Over ฿1,000,000: four of a kind (8888, 9999), single digits and some 2-digit numbers.
Be careful with very cheap plates
Before you send money for any plate, ask to see the documents for the number, and make sure the transfer is done at a Department of Land Transport (DLT) office. Our guide to plate transfer and documents shows what to check.
